Miss Kaitlyn, my beautiful 9-year-old niece, surprised me the other day. She is a sweet, quiet, beautiful young lady who loves Hannah Montana and all things girly. One of her most striking features is her long, strawberry blonde hair.
Last week there was a knock at my door and there stood my niece with the biggest smile on her face and so much love in her heart! She had cut her hair into a bob. She looked fabulous, but I couldn’t help but scream “what happened to your long hair, I know how much you love your hair?” Her reply, “Aunt Janet, I did it for Locks of Love“. Right then and there, she and I, in that moment shared a very special bond.
How incredibly unselfish and giving! Over the last two years since Jake’s passing, Kaitlyn has quietly observed all that has been going on around her, like hearing about children who were losing their hair because of chemotherapy. Kaitlyn wanted to help, she wanted to make a difference. And so she has! There is a young lady out there who is fighting to live, and because of Kaitlyn’s generosity, this child will put on a strawberry blonde wig and no doubt, a big smile on her face! And for a few wonderful moments, she’ll feel like a normal kid.
Below are Kaitlyn’s words about Locks of Love ~
Hi my name is Kaitlyn Borduas and I am 9 years old. I am Jacob, Jon, and Joy’s cousin. I did Locks of Love because my friend Caitlyn did Locks of Love. I was inspired to do it so I did. I had never planned on cutting my hair and I had never cut my hair other than a trim, but when my friend told me she did it, it just hit me. So I asked my mom and my dad and it was hard to get my dad but he finally came to his senses and he said “ok” and my mom said “ok” too. When I showed my Aunt Janet she was thrilled by what I did. She didn’t even know I was thinking of doing Locks of Love. She said she wanted to do Locks of Love too and that was surprising to me. Janet asked me to write my story for Jacob’s website. I do miss my long hair, but I did do something very nice for someone. I hope that you are inspired by what you just read and you will Do What’s Right.

Janet, the website is absolutely beautiful and so inspiring. Congratulations to
you and to those who helped you…and to your inspiration, our Jacob. The
bracelet is a perfect and constant reminder of where we should be in our
thoughts and our deeds on a daily basis. I know that Jacob is proud of you for
your efforts and for remembering that which is most important in life, and that
is loving one another.
