Jacob Aaron Steel ~ January 10, 1987-October 23, 2007

It’s a tough week. I can’t believe this Friday will mark two years since Jacob passed away. Over the past couple of weeks my nightmares have returned. They consist of very vivid flashbacks to that summer and fall in 2007.  Life has certainly been a journey for us, as I’m sure it has been for many of you. We have faced the worst of times, seen the best and the worst in mankind, and yet our faith in God has grown stronger. He continues to hold us in his loving hands. Our family is healing and we’re taking pleasure in the simple things in life. A wonderful friend said to me this weekend, “your life will never be the same, you’ll just learn to walk a little differently”. Thank you Gayle.

This Friday, October 23rd, we have a mission: to sell 1,000 Do What’s Right bracelets in 23 hours in remembrance of Jacob! He wanted to make a positive impact in the world via the Internet, let’s see what we can do in one day. You can help to “change the world, one bracelet at a time”. We will send you a free car decal promoting Jake’s Mission with every bracelet purchased. Won’t you please participate and forward this mission on to all your email contacts. Simply click on the Shopping or DWR Store links above.  A $1.00 donation for every bracelet sold will be made to the Children’s Hematology & Oncology Unit at the Children’s Hospital here in SW Florida. It would be awesome to be handing them a check next week for $1,000.00!!  Thank you in advance for participating.

All our love,

Jacob’s Family

Dear Jan, Dan, and Jon,
So glad you were able to make it back to NC to see Jacob’s tree. I am sure it is absolutely beautiful this time of year. I hope you post a picture of it on the CaringBridge for all his warriors to see.

Dear Jan, Dan, Jon, Joy, and Greg,
I know God will wrap you in His loving arms today to help you with your memories of grief, he will also breath into you the joy you shared with Jacob and the fun memories. Know that the Borduas family sends hugs and kisses and prayers your way. We also miss Jacob very much!! I’m wearing my DWR bracelet, Jacob is always with me.

Love to you all.

HI guys,
Your last few journal entries were beautifully written and the last one brought a fountain of tears streaming down my face. I believe Jacob made a difference in every life he touched. I think of your family often and my wish for you is that somehow, some way, the days become easier. I truly feel fortunate that I was given the opportunity to meet and care for Jacob. Thank you for that. Take care and may God continue to carry you and bless you.

Dear Janet, Dan, Joy, Jon and Greg:

Two years have passed since Jacob went with the Lord. The love you all shared for him and that of friends and neighbor’s is a tribute to you all for sharing his long journey with us.
He is in a better place and the suffering is over. The Lord has him by the hand and he is no longer in pain.
Greg’s letter to him was so sad but beautiful. I am sure he is hurting as all of you are. Life goes on and Jacob’s memory will always be with us all.
Jake would want you to celebrate his short life with the memories of his time with you. God needed him.
